One of many paintings inspired by visits to the Scotland’s West Coast, this was painted on an old map of the islands of Rhum, Eigg and Muck. The islands on the map can be seen through the thinly painted sea, as if looking through the water to the lower halves of icebergs below the water line, a metaphor for the effects of climate change and the melting ice caps.
This painting is framed with a simple grey float frame (see additional images). The 3 mm gap between the frame and the inner edge of the artwork panel creates a shadow and gives the illusion that the artwork is ‘floating’ within the frame. This enhances the overall effect, as it creates a sense of depth and draws the viewer’s eye to the artwork.
