The name “Silver Sands of Morar” describes a spectacular, sunlit stretch of coastline in the Scottish Highlands. It refers to a series of pristine, quartz-rich beaches stretching between the village of Morar and Arisaig. Unlike common yellow or golden beaches made from a mix of rocks and minerals, the sand here is composed almost entirely of crushed shells and bright white quartz. Because of this pure composition, the sand sparkles and shines like glittering silver when hit by the sunlight—giving the beaches their famous name.
