This drawing was inspired by Mallaig harbour, located at the end of a spectacular, sunlit stretch of coastline in the Scottish Highlands. It is a popular spot for hopping on to a ferry to visit Skye and the Western Isles. I can recall one saililng trip, many years ago when cruising with friends in the area and we became caught in a storm and sought refuge here in the harbour. We tied up alongside a fishing boat to wait it out. It was a wild night and in the morning, many of the smaller boats in the harbour had been swept above the beach onto the road above, others were submereged by the deluge. I and my fellow crew felt incredibly grateful to have found shelter that night, hence the title “Safe Haven!”
